Richmond

Richmond view

We live in Northern Virginia and Richmond is an easy day trip, but when we had a baby shower to attend down there recently, we decided to make a weekend of it.

We had a fantastic stay at the Quirk Hotel. The second you walk in the door, you can’t help but be sucked in by the decor – the lobby is just stunning from its architectural details leftover from its days as an early 20th century department store, to its gorgeous design with trademark pops of pink, to the fun (quirky!) artwork.

Beyond the aesthetic, the staff were just wonderful – just a few of our interactions included a barista who told me not to worry about paying for my latte, someone at the front desk who asked (unsolicited) to take a family photo for us, and a guy who literally went running down the street to help my husband find our car when he needed to grab something from it – everyone was so sweet and very welcoming of the kids too.

We stayed in a loft suite, which was great as a family to have some extra space and separation between beds – much more spacious than a standard hotel room. Another cool feature is that each of the rooms has unique local artwork.

The shared spaces are awesome too – I did sneak up to the rooftop bar briefly, and it’s a really fun spot with fantastic views – I would have loved to spend more time there if I didn’t have to leave Bryan alone with the snoozing kiddos! The location was also convenient – we walked to go eat all of our meals, and only took out the car when we drove over to ARCpark (awesome playground!) and Scott’s Addition for breweries (the Veil was great!).
